Port of Peterhead plans large scale expansion

Three companies are reportedly bidding to win a £32 million contract for a large scale upgrade of the Port of Peterhead.

Peterhead Port Authority wants to build a 650ft quay and a 328ft breakwater at the Smith Embankment to meet the demands of the modern pelagic fishing fleet, and lay the foundations for attracting decommissioning work for oil and gas rigs.

The port's chief executive John Wallace said recently that he was confident that the project will be able to progress and that a government grant needed to help fund the work will be forthcoming.

The port is also waiting to hear if a harbour revision order, which is required before any work can start, will be granted.
