UKHO award for German hydrographer

The recipient of this year's annual UK Hydrographic Office Alexander Dalrymple Award for outstanding dedication and contribution to world hydrography is Horst Hecht, Director of the Federal German Maritime & Hydrographic Agency's Department of Nautical Hydrography in Rostock.

One of Europe's leading authorities on the development of electronic charting technology and a prominent figure in international hydrographic affairs for the last 20 years, he was presented with the Award by UK Hydrographer Rear Admiral Ian Moncrieff as part of the UKHO's celebration of World Hydrography Day last month at the Trinity House London headquarters.

Among those present at the ceremony, which was dedicated to acknowledging the core importance of hydrography to safety of life at sea and protection of marine environments, were overseas ambassadors and foreign embassy officials as well as leading representatives of the IMO and the International Hydrographic Organization.
