Replenishment contract for Van Oord
10 Jul 2008
Dutch dredging major Van Oord has been contracted by the Netherlands' Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management to carry out the country’s biggest foreshore replenishment project ever.
In works that will continue until early 2009, Van Oord’s trailing suction hopper dredgers will deposit more than 8m cu/m of sand off the coast at Den Helder in a contract valued at some €27m.
Van Oord has also been awarded a contract to build a quay along Zijkanaal A at Beverwijk in the Netherlands with a length of 225m and a height of 12m.
This contract also includes the design of the dredging work, the coastal and shoreline work, the land based infrastructure and applying for the required permits.
Van Oord Nederland will commence work on the project in September of this year and will require some eight months for completion. The client is Abeko, an international plant hire company that specialises in earth moving, transhipment, demolition, cutting and dredging equipment.
