KD Marine catches a Seawind for support

Appledore UK based Seawind Marine Limited has a strong boat building history and is associated with traditional steel and GRP trawler new builds and specialised multi functional work vessels. Now the multi-skilled workforce has embarked on a new kind of challenge. In association with the naval architect Ian Darley, Seawind has been instructed by KD Marine of Scotland to design and build a new concept aluminium dive support vessel.

Swedish boat builder Dockstavarvet has a long standing record as aluminium boat builders, specialising in two lines, high speed police/patrol/interceptor craft and fast pilot launches. It is the latter category that has been addressed by the recent arrival of LOS 116, the second pilot boat from Docksta to the Norwegian Coastal Administration, was delivered to the Fedje Pilot Station outside Bergen last month.

The harbourmaster on Denmark's Læsø Island has replaced the incandescent bulbs and lampchanger in a conventional warning lantern with Tideland Signal's new MaxiHALO-60 LED flasher assembly in order to achieve a brighter light, giving better visibility across the Kattegat sea between that country and Sweden.

Rapid refloats and pollution prevention

Last year saw a substantial increase in pollutants recovered by International Salvage Union (ISU) members. A total of 1.1m tons of oils, chemicals and other pollutants was recovered from 282 casualties. This is a near 95% increase on the tonnage recovered in 2006.

Port Khorfakkan is Sharjah’s sole port on the Indian Ocean and is dedicated entirely to container handling. Expansion works are well underway to extend the present quay of 1460m by a further 440m by main contractor Athena SA.

Restoration completed at Liverpool's Brunswick Dock

South Boats Special Projects Ltd of Cowes on the Isle of Wight heads to Seawork 2008 with three vessels to display on the floating pontoon. They can be found immediately at the bottom of the main gangway, with ‘Solway Spirit’ and ‘MPI Sancho Panza’ on the outside of the main pontoon and ‘Reetta’ at the bottom of the main walkway.
