High speed Interceptor makes world debut at Seawork
01 Jun 2008
The vessel will also be entered in the Seawork Innovations Showcase and available for demonstration runs from the Seawork floating pontoon.
This very specialised craft has an interception speed of 57 knots and can be fitted with a range of weapons to underline its coastal security role.
The propulsion package of twin Volvo diesels with Duoprop sterndrives provides excellent acceleration, together with optimum manoeuvrability to help the Interceptor 1102 stay in touch with its prey.
The Interceptor 1102's design was carried out by DHA Marine Design Ltd, based near Seawork's venue city of Southampton UK.
The deep 'V' hull form is designed to keep the boat running fast even in higher sea states and the cockpit ergonomics ensure a comfortable ride for the crew. Structural design in advanced carbon and glass composites provides the high strength to weight ratio necessary for high speeds. The vessel has been designed for optimum weight saving throughout.
With its capability to be loaded into a standard 40’ shipping container, the Interceptor 1102 can be transported around the world economically and at short notice.
Throughout the design and production of this vessel, maintainability and durability of equipment have been addressed so that downtime in service is minimised and reliability optimised.
The Interceptor 1102 has been entered for the Seawork Spirit of Innovation Award in the Vessel Design & Construction Category. Show visitors wishing to apply for a sea trial should visit the Damen Shipyards team at Stand No. 32.
