Second of heavy lift newbuild programme sails
29 May 2008
Following a recent naming ceremony of MV 'Anne-Sofie' in the port of Hamburg, the modern heavy lift vessel started its maiden voyage towards Asia.
The MV 'Anne-Sofie' has a combined crane capacity of 1,400mt and can sail at 20 knots.
The MV Anne-Sofie is the second of eight new heavy lift vessels to be delivered to SAL. The vessel of Type 176, capable of 20 knots and with a combined crane capacity of 1,400mt SWL. It will be the second newbuilding to be delivered to the joint venture between SAL and K-Line, which is collectively called SAL. The first two new buildings will be followed by two sister vessels which will also enter the market this year.
The comprehensive newbuilding program will be further expanded in 2010, when another four new buildings of Type 179 are added to the SAL heavy lift fleet. These vessels will be equipped with two cranes of 1,000mt SWL each. The lifting capacity of 2,000mt SWL, an unobstructed working deck of 135m by 27.m, an on/under deck area of 7,000 sq/m, a speed of 20 knots and a Dynamic Positioning System (DP Class II), make these newbuildings quite unique in the heavy lift/offshore market. Following a long standing tradition of cooperation, all eight vessels in the order will be built by the German shipyard Sietas.
