Large number of contracts for Jan de Nul

Belgian dredging contractor Jan de Nul was awarded a number of contracts last month, including one to execute dredging and deepening works for the Barra do Riacho terminal at Aracruz in Brazil, a terminal owned by Portocel and Petrobras.

In total 2.1m cu/m will be dredged by the new backacter Vitruvius. The total value of the contract is some $50m.

Jan de Nul has also signed a contract worth €8m and the financing is in place for the extension of Puerto Cortes in Honduras. Part of the dredged materials for the project will serve as fill for the future container terminal. The work is due to start in the second quarter of this year.

The GLF consortium, of which Jan de Nul is a part, has been awarded a $80m design and construct contract for the extension of La Galeota port in Trinidad for NEC, the national oil company

Jan de Nul recently started work at Callao in Peru on a $210m project in which it is working in a consortium with Odebrecht and Saipem, executing dredging and filling works for the construction of a new container terminal for client DP World. The work also involves some demolition work and wreck removal. At the same time in Melchorita, Peru and with the same partners, Jan De Nul is involved in the design and construction of a new LNG terminal.

Work onshore has already started, a quarry has been opened and the first piles for the trestle have been driven. Dredging works are due to start in July or August of this year.

Jan De Nul’s scope of works is some $50m and includes dredging and rock dumping for the breakwater.

In Europe, a joint venture between Jan De Nul and the Dutch construction company BAM has been awarded a contract for the construction of the Schuman-Josaphat railway tunnel in Brussels. The contract is worth €210m and forms part of the Watermael-Schuman-Josaphat project, establishing a railway connection between the stations Watermael, Brussels-Schuman and the northeast of Brussels.
