Sonardyne acquires Waterfront Systems
01 May 2008
The deal follows earlier joint development of Sonardyne's new Sentinel IDS intruder detection system designed to counter threats of underwater attacks against ships, harbours, coastal industrial installations and offshore oil platforms. It provides 360° of acoustic coverage and a protection zone of up to a diameter of 1,800m from a single sonar head.
Wavefront will continue to operate as an autonomous subsidiary of Sonardyne, developing what its says will be innovative hardware and software solutions for the next generation of sonar systems. Sonardyne, which is based in nearby Yateley, maintains other regional subsidiaries in Abedeen, Brazil, Singapore and the US.
Recent contracts include supply of an Ocean Bottom Cable acoustic positioning system to Global Geophysical Services Inc of Houston, who plan to use it in support of shallow water seismic survey operations employing a network of low cost acoustic transponders for positioning hydrophone ground stations in depths of 500m.
