Dredging International a key partner in Coentunnel project

The Rijkswaterstaat, part of the Dutch Ministry of Transportation and Water Management, and Coentunnel Company BV in the Netherlands have signed a contract for the Capacity Expansion Coentunnel Route, a project which also involves Dredging International as a key partner.

The contract is a design, build, finance and maintain deal, with a duration of 30 years and a total value of approximately €500m.

The contract will proceed in several phases. First, Coentunnel Company will assume responsibility for the maintenance of the existing Coentunnel route for 30 years, whilst the State of the Netherlands remains the owner and manager through the Rijkswaterstaat. Simultaneously Coentunnel Company will become responsible for the construction of a second Coentunnel with access roads and facilities. After the new tunnel is brought into use, the old Coentunnel will be renovated, after which the Coentunnel route will consist of two tunnels with a total of eight lanes of traffic.

Coentunnel Company BV consists of Arcadis, BESIX, CFE, Dredging International, Dura Vermeer, TBI Bouw (represented by Haverkort Voormolen) and Vinci. During the two year tender procedure, the Dutch/Belgium/French consortium was assisted at financial level by Rabobank and RebelGroup, while Clifford Chance rendered legal assistance.
