Evelop and Van Oord to build offshore windfarms
08 May 2008
Evelop, part of the sustainable energy company Econcern, has signed a contract with Dutch dredging and marine contractor Van Oord that will see the companies build four offshore windfarms in Western Europe.
The agreement covers the construction of the foundations and electrical equipment for the turbines, and the total investment involved in the contract amounts to some €1.5bn.
The windfarms will have a total maximum capacity of 1,500MW, or enough to supply sustainable electricity to 1.5m households. The first project will be the 330MW Belwind project off the coast of Belgium. The final investment decision is planned for mid-2008 and the project will start delivering electricity at the beginning of 2010.
Windfarms off the German coast, Gode Wind, OWP West and Albatros, are the next projects that the two companies will address.
