A new addition to the Regulus fleet
01 May 2008
The new vessel has been named Symphony 5 after the company’s first deep sea tug.
Symphony 5 was built by Piasau Slipways in Miri, Malaysia and designed by Conan Wu & Associates to meet the class requirements of Nippon Kaiji Kyokai and registry under the Singapore flag. The tug has an overall length of 37.00m and beam of 11.40m, with a moulded draft of 4.95m.
A pair of Cummins KTA50M2 engines, each producing 1,800bhp, gives a free running speed of 13.5 knots. The vessel is built for a range of 6,600 nautical miles at approximately 11.0 knots. Manoeuvrability is enhanced with the 350hp Kamome bow thruster. A spacious engine room layout allows for the installation of a fire fighting system at a later date. Two Cummins 6CTA8.3.D(M) generators, each giving 150kW of power, provide the main electrical supply.
Deck machinery aboard Symphony 5 includes a Plimsoll double drum anchor handling and towing winch with a brake holding load of 150 tons, a 5 ton tugger winch, 100 ton capacity ‘Shark Jaws’, towing pins and a 300 ton SWL stern roller. The vessel is provided with excellent all round rubber fendering for assisting in oilfield operations.
Founded in 1998 in Dubai, Regulus Ship Services has since established itself as a leading, reliable and professional towage contractor. Regulus Ship Services Pte Ltd, Singapore, was established in 2005 and has ISO accreditation in both in Dubai and Singapore to provide deep sea towage and salvage services, offshore vessel operations, as well as technical and crewing management worldwide.
Regulus has also recently acquired the 13,000bhp anchor handling tug supply vessel Harmony 1, which is presently engaged in offshore rig towage and anchor handling activities in Indonesia. The 67m Harmony 1 is classed with Lloyds Register and operated under the Singapore flag.
Powered by four MAK 8M 453 AK engines producing 3,250bhp each at 600rpm. Two 600bhp transverse thrusters are fitted in the bow and one in the stern. A full outfit of towing and anchor handling equipment is installed, including a Brattvaag triple drum anchor handling and towing winch with a 400 ton brake capacity.
