Cool savings with anti-glare screens at SMM

SOLASAFE-SR, the latest innovative product to be launched by anti-glare specialists Solar Solve Marine, was a feature on their stand at the SMM exhibition in Hamburg last month.
The new scratch resistant SOLASAFE-SR screens are not only an aid to safety, but also reduce fuel costs associated with air conditioning.
The new scratch resistant SOLASAFE-SR screens are not only an aid to safety, but also reduce fuel costs associated with air conditioning.

Julie Lightfoot, the company's managing director was excited about the new product saying, 'We know that the new SOLASAFE-SR (Scratch Resistant) anti-glare roller screens will generate a great deal of interest, and we are also emphasising the ecological benefits of all Solar Solves marine products.'

SOLASAFE anti-glare sunscreens are housed in an anodised aluminium cassette for maximum performance and protection. The wipe clean brush system ensures that any dirt and dust collected during operation is removed when the screen is retracted. All screens come complete with aluminium bottom rail and optional side channels or guide cables. SOLASAFE sunscreens are suitable for almost all seagoing vessels.

Academics at Northumbria University carried out tests which showed that a reduction of between 23% and 30% can be expected in the designed HVAC plant refrigeration load for the navigation bridge air conditioning unit, depending on the type of solar film used in the construction of the screen. Whilst the company has always felt that this was significant, it is only within the last 12 months that the industry has begun to attach great importance to it.

The company's Paul Hopkins said, 'Certainly the cost savings of using our products are an advantage but now that there is more awareness and desire to be eco-friendly, the tons of fuel oil that are saved and the tons of noxious gasses and carbon that are not being discharged into the atmosphere as a result of using solar roller screens are proving to be very significant in decision making processes.'

Over 75,000 SOLASOLV screens having been installed on more than 7,500 vessels worldwide as a navigation safety aid on the bridge and for crew comfort in accommodation, dining, leisure and other areas. The sunscreens are Type Approved by Lloyds, DNV and ABS.
