Hydro8 symposium set for success

Over 50 exhibitors and speakers from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Sweden, the UK and US are among the main features of Hydro8, the 16th European Hydro Symposium being held in this year's European Capital of Culture, Liverpool, from 4-6 November.

Hosted and organised by The Hydrographic Society UK on behalf of the International Federation of Hydrographic Societies, it is officially supported by Seawork 2009 International, International Ocean Systems, Ocean Scientific Instruments Ltd (OSIL) and Ocean Business 2009.

The three day event, at the Britannia Adelphi Hotel in the City centre, opens with a keynote address by Rear Admiral Ian Moncrieff, UK National Hydrographer, dealing with the main conference theme, New Opportunities. Subsequent wide ranging conference sessions are scheduled to cover Coastal Mapping Techniques & Applications, Data Handling & Presentation, Tides & Currents, Standards & Training, The Marine Environment, Precise Positioning and Hydrography for Marine Renewables.

Fringe events include afternoon technical workshops, demonstrations and vessel visits at the nearby Albert Dock. There will also be opportunities to visit locally based Proudman Oceanography Laboratory, the world's leading centre for tidal and storm surge prediction and one of Europe's principal resources for modelling and forecasting coastal water environments.

Further details, including the full conference programme, exhibitors and registration charges, are available via the main symposium website www.hydro8.org.uk
