Woolwich Ferry transfer
02 Oct 2008
London's Woolwich Ferry, a free service carrying road vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists across the River Thames, sees its operation transferred from the London Borough of Greenwich to international services company Serco from the first of this month. The Ferry, which carries one million vehicles and two million passengers per year, dates to the 14th Century and has been free since the 1880's. It remains free and its schedule is unchanged under the £10.7m, 18 month contract.
