  • Leviathan to work on world's largest wind farm

    The newbuild 5,500gt jack-up vessel ‘ Seajacks Leviathan’ arrived in Harwich UK at the end of September to begin work installing wind turbines at the Greater Gabbard Wind Farm. Situated some 25km off the Suffolk/Essex coast, it will be the world’ s largest offshore wind farm to date. 03 Oct 2009

  • Heavy lifter 'Svanen' to drive piles for wind turbines

    Ballast Nedam' s heavy lift vessel Svanen left the port of Rotterdam early this month after being commissioned by Van Oord Dredging and Marine Contractors to drive 56 steel piles for the foundations of the Belwind offshore wind farm off the coast of Zeebrugge (Belgium). This is the first phase of the Belwind project, which will eventually encompass a total of 110 wind turbines. 09 Sep 2009

  • Thanet on schedule

    Swedish company Vattenfall is making steady progress with construction of the Thanet Offshore Wind Farm, with over half the foundation and transition pieces now installed and plans in place for the cable laying, turbine installation and longer term maintenance phases of the project.   • TidalStream's turbine validated in deep water tests

    Two British engineers have developed a breakthrough design that could within five years begin to generate substantial amounts of cheap electricity from deepwater tidal flows. TidalStream Ltd reported last month that their unique turbine platform design, code named Triton, has successfully undergone validation testing at the deep-water test basin at Ifremer in Brittany, France. 01 Jun 2009

  • First Ocean Cat launched this month.

    A new design catamaran for the offshore wind market is due to be launched this month. The Ocean Cat, a 16m aluminium work catamaran designed by Marine Design International Ltd., is under construction at Mooney Boats in Killybegs for Sinbad Marine Services, and is part of the same design family as the established Coastal Cat. 01 Jun 2009
