DBC Celebrates 25 Years of Marine Safety
01 Feb 2003
Canadian liferaft manufacturer DBC Marine Safety Systems is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its humble origins as a small service station in a Vancouver suburb.
Now one of the world's largest liferaft manufacturers, DBC claims credit for developing and approving the first 50 person SOLAS liferaft in 1984, the first evacuation slide and IBA combination in 1993 and the 150 person reversible liferaft in 1998, the latter being the world's largest liferaft. It also claims the world's first SOLAS approved Marine Evacuation System, launched in 1995.
DBC was incorporated into the Zodiac Group in 2000 and became responsible for marketing Zodiac commercial liferafts in North America while continuing to manufacture and distribute its own range.
Noteworthy European customers of DBC include Brittany Ferries, Meyer Werft and the Royal Navy.
