£1m Malaysian order for latest Sonardyne systems – by David Goodfellow
Yateley UK based Sonardyne has supplied SapuraAcergy of Kuala Lumpur with ranges of its new 6G (sixth generation) acoustic positioning systems for use in projects throughout South East Asia under a contract worth £1m.
The Malaysian company, a leading oil and gas services contractor, plans to upgrade its conventional deepwater construction vessel, Sapura 3000, by replacing its existing Sonardyne Ranger Ultra-Short Baseline (USBL) positioning system with newer ultra-wide bandwidth equipment providing improved ranging and telemetric performance.
In addition to the upgrade, Sonardyne will also trial its latest Lodestar subsea inertial navigation system aboard Sapura 3000’s ROV assembly to improve pipe touchdown monitoring.
Meanwhile, SapuraAcergy says it will deploy its new 6G equipment over the next two years for precise positioning of structures and pipelines on a number of projects. For one particular venture, the first stage of subsea operations will be installation of a Long Baseline (LBL) navigation network on the seabed to cover an in-field construction area. It will include a network of Compatt 6 transponders to support installation of all structures as well as laydown of flowlines and subsequent pipeline metrology activities.
