Valeport US venture – by David Goodfellow
Instrumentation specialist Valeport of Devon UK has teamed with Oceanscience in California to develop an underway sound velocity (SV) profiling system.
This enables surveyors to secure fast, high quality profiles without ever having to stop a vessel and suspend operations.
Featuring Valeport’s new RapidSV freefall profiler, the system provides predictable tow paths and can thus be deployed whenever other equipment is being towed.
First systems are scheduled for release this autumn while Valeport says that several pre-production orders have already been received. Meanwhile, Oceanscience is reportedly also developing self organising drifting floats for surveying rivers autonomously under an initial contract awarded by the US Office of Naval Research.
