Bulgarian coastline surveys

09 Sep 2009

Blom Bulgaria and Blom Aerofilms of Cheddar in the UK are to collaborate in major surveys of the Bulgarian Black Sea coastline using bathymetric laser scanning (Lidar) techniques in a project commissioned by Bulgaria’ s Centre for Underwater Archaeology, which is responsible for protection and preservation of national underwater cultural heritage.

Aims of the project, which is due to be completed towards the end of this year, include identification of archaeological sites which will enable further scientific research.

It will involve simultaneous laser scanning of both seabed and land over an area of approximately 100 square kilometres using Blom’s Hawkeye airborne Lidar system, which is capable of single pass surveys for production of high definition charts and seabed bathymetry to 2.5 times the sight depth.
