New Fugro survey vessel launched
Fugro Survey’s latest survey vessel, ‘Fugro Searcher’, which is due to commence service in March following extensive sea trials.
Fugro Survey’s first new geophysical survey vessel since the early 1980s, ‘Fugro Searcher’, has been launched in readiness for sea trials before beginning service in March.
Built by Fassmer & Co at its Bremen yard, the 65m craft can accommodate 43 crew and specialist personnel and is designed for worldwide operation from its company base in Aberdeen.
Onboard survey equipment includes Kongsberg EA600 single and EM302 and EM3002 multibeam echosounders, an Edgetech dual frequency 4200 digital sidescan sonar, a chirp sub-bottom profiler, a Hydroscience SeeMux digital system with seismic facilities, and a HiPap 500 USBL assembly.
Fugro says the vessel will be fully networked to provide complete plug-and-play interconnectivity supported by the company’s own dual Differential GPS high precision navigation equipment. It adds that the vessel’s design will permit simultaneous analogue and digital survey and AUV operations, while geotechnical and ROVSV duties can also be carried out. Other main design attributes include an ability to maximise station keeping and navigational control while ensuring acoustically quiet running at survey speeds.
