Norwegian ENC distribution agreement
Navtor, a newly established Norwegian e-navigation company based in Egersund near Stavanger, has signed a distribution agreement with the Norwegian Hydrographic Service’s Primar organisation for supply of its official electronic nautical charts (ENCs).
It is based on bilateral agreements with several nations as well as direct license and distributor arrangements with other hydrographic offices and distributors. More than 8,000 ENCs are currently available from Primar.
Willy Zeiler, Navtor’s marketing and communications manager, says the company aims to launch the service early next year. Among its objectives will be simplifying ordering, licensing, updating and administration processes ahead of IMO’s mandate for phased introduction of ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display Information System) aboard selective vessels from next July.
