Sonardyne extends transponder range
Sonardyne of Yateley, Hampshire UK has launched the sixth generation of its best selling acoustic positioning transponder, the Wideband Sub Mini 6 (WSM6).
It is a versatile USBL (Ultra-Short Baseline) system developed to support the company’s advanced Wideband 2 signal architecture whilst retaining many of the features that made the previous model an industry standard. It also supports Sonardyne’s earlier Wideband 1 scheme.
The new system is designed for positioning ROVs, towfish and other mobile targets in depths down to 4,000m and is available in both MF Directional and Omni-Directional versions to suit a wide range of operational scenarios. With improved ranging accuracy, operation in multi-user and multi-vessel environments, and rapid USBL position updates, its introduction marks a significant addition to Sonardyne latest 6G product range, said Darryl Newborough, director of Subsea Product Development.
