Market consultation for Maasvlakte windfarm

06 Jan 2012

The Port of Rotterdam Authority and the Dutch government are looking into the possibility of building a windfarm with a potential of more than 100MW on the seawall of the new Maasvlakte 2.

To this end, the port authority recently launched an international market consultation which was due to run until 9 December 2011.

The Port of Rotterdam Authority is hoping to double the capacity of wind turbines in the port area to 300MW by 2020. The zoning plan for Maasvlakte 2 takes into account a windfarm on the outer edge of the facility.

When complete, Maasvlakte 2 will cover 2,000 hectares. Construction began in 2008 and is due to be completed by the end of 2013.
