Low power consumption barge light launched

21 Nov 2011

Australia based Sealite has launched a cost-effective solution to short range solar powered barge lighting.

Sealite’s new BargeSafe BL2 LED barge light provides low power consumption, resulting in an efficient, lightweight, compact fixture that is claimed to be extremely cost effective and user friendly.

The LED lens, designed by Sealite, achieves precise intensity and sectoring requirements from a single LED light source. Precise sectoring is extremely important for use on barges so their position and direction can be clearly identified on waterways. The BargeSafe BL2 is claimed to be the only solar-powered barge light with a 2nm range, designed to meet UL 1104 and COLREG-72 standards for use on vessels of 12m to 50m in length.

The BargeSafe BL2 uses a single, ultra -bright, power LED. During daylight hours the solar module will charge the battery and the lantern will automatically begin operation at dusk, once the ambient light threshold drops sufficiently. The use of a single LED instead of multiple LEDs reduces power consumption enormously and therefore has the effect of increasing the autonomy of the lights to 20 nights.

The BL2 is completely self contained with solar module, optics and battery all being securely enclosed in the tough, durable polycarbonate housing, giving it an IP68 waterproof rating. It can be installed in minutes, requires no operator intervention and has permanent ON/OFF switch allowing for easy storage.
