Denmark’s big lift for Northern Europe
One of the largest test benches in Northern Europe opens in Esbjerg.
Certex UK customers now have access to one of the largest test benches in Northern Europe, thanks to new equipment installed recently in Denmark.
The new bench measures 20.5m long, with the capacity to test lifting equipment up to 1,200 tons (pulling force) and dimensions of up to 15m. It has been installed in a purpose built facility in the Danish Port of Esbjerg by Peter Harbo A/S, a member of the Certex International group of companies.
This 5m DKK investment has been made to meet market demand for heavier and bigger constructions that require correspondingly larger lifting devices. Examples of the type of equipment that can be tested using the bench include steel wire rope, chain, chain accessories, hooks and rings, crane hooks and blocks, fibre ropes, mooring lines, hawsers, single buoy moorings, lifting beams, brackets and triangles.
The new capacity is expected to open up and expand business opportunities in the offshore, wind power, shipping, and marine construction industries across Northern Europe. Previously, larger pieces of equipment would have been outsourced for testing. Being able to carry out this process in-house will ultimately be a time saving benefit for users.
The new test bench which is housed in its own purpose built facility has the capacity to perform pull tests up to 1,200 tons (direct line pull), breaking tests up to 960 tons (direct line pull), and spreader beam tests up to 500 tons (angle test).
Certex UK distributes lifting products and services, holding an estimated 8% of the market share. It supplies only branded names such as Bridon Ropes, Crosby fittings for ropes and chains, Kuplex chain systems, Elephant chain blocks, Viking branded slings and Walker magnets. Certex has also developed its own brand of chain blocks, lever hoists and accessories, the Bulldog range.
