Hercules builds strength staying in-house
Hercules has developed its fuel transfer system as a complete package.
Hercules Hydraulics has found that pull from the industry has been ‘large’ even by a deck equipment manufacturer’s standards.
Hercules core services have been developed largely for the wind farm support vessel market, but Ryan Langley of Hercules explained that this isn’t where it ends. “It started with our capstan. A few of our customers were very keen to have everything sourced from one place, so we started manufacturing it ourselves.”
Then the company brought the manufacturing of its hydraulic pressure washer in house, followed by a diesel fuel transfer system for the refuelling of remote equipment. This last item has the option of either a hydraulic or electric drive, and as it is built in-house by Hercules, it is an inclusive package. It comes supplied with control panels, control arrangements and stainless or mild steel hose reels, all of which can be tailored to match the duty requirements of the specific craft as well as being integrated with the other onboard equipment.
After this came the range of plug-in electromagnetic clutch units. “These have been designed to be installed onto live power take off points, typically as an interface between the gearbox, and say, the pump unit, so the pump can be turned on and off instead of being engaged all the time”, explained Mr Langley.
Thus it is a complete package being built up by the company, which has been furthered by the development of a lightweight baby anchor winch, now being followed by two bigger brothers.
“We do spend quite a bit of effort re-investing in products, added Mr Langley. “We also have an eye to the future. We are using the wind farm market to bring our products through, but when this construction phase is more or less completed, we will be there providing maintenance and servicing.”
“One of the main characteristics of the company’s products is adaptability.”
