DESMI sends boat to ‘Ro-Clean’ Angola
The DESMI Ro-Clean vessel for Angola has an in-built rope mop oil recovery system mounted between the two hulls.
In the northern part of Angola, just south of the Congo River, a new terminal is rapidly being built and one of the popular DESMI Ro-Clean anti-pollution vessels will be stationed there in case emergency clean-ups are required.
Over the course of a few years, Angola has become the second largest Sub-Saharan oil producer, and currently is the world’s biggest crude oil supplier to China. This makes the oil industry a very important element in an economy that has become one of the fastest growing in the world.
The vessel for Angola is over 30’ long and has an in-built rope mop oil recovery system mounted between the two hulls. This unique system allows the skimmer speed to match the relative speed of the boat and 5 knot recovery becomes possible, compared to only 0.75 knots with the old boom sweep techniques.
DESMI Ro-Clean has a large range of vessels including RIBs, aluminium craft and the Pollcat series of steel catamarans. In the past 12 months alone, the company has secured boat orders exceeding $7m and all the steel Pollcats are manufactured in the UK by Manor Marine in Portland.
The Pollcats are available in up to 75’ configurations and can recover oil at a rate of up to 275gpm on the larger vessels. Onboard storage and the option of heated tanks increase utility and, being steel, the vessels can sustain the usual abuse and beyond in these types of operation. With other deck options and equipment, the Pollcats can be multi-purpose, providingf a very stable platform for a variety of operations. Indeed, on builds of over 50’, the bridge is built clear of the deck to give commanding views around the vessel and beyond.
The Pollcat for Angola will join other vessels from Damen in Changde; Quingdao Qianjin Shipyard and Alnmaritec for Svitzer’s 20 year contract for marine services at the terminal.
