Bedford UK based Clements Marine recently completed a contract to supply the newbuild 22.5m monohull crew and workboat built by Lyme Boats for Inchcape Shipping Services.

Working closely with Lyme Boats design requirements, Clements Marine supplied a complete solution for all the stern gear, rudder gear and propellers.

The Inchcape 23 is designed for use in Dubai to ferry crew and equipment quickly and safely around the Gulf. This aluminium vessel will join a 16 strong fleet operating in the Arabian Gulf region and is powered by twin 670 bhp Caterpillar diesels which deliver a service speed of 22 knots. The vessel can carry 23 personnel and 25 tons of cargo on the aft deck.

Paul Williams, managing director of Clements Marine said, ‘We are delighted to be involved in the build of this boat. As British manufacturers it has been a pleasure to work with a UK based yard, building a truly excellent product.’

Inchcape 23 was built to Lloyd’s Register +100 A1 SCC Workboat Mono: HSC:G3 MCH, and all of the Clements Marine equipment on board was also built to the approved certification.

Meanwhile, Norwegian builder Saga Boats approached Clements Marine to assist them with some propeller issues they had been experiencing to do with noise and vibration stemming from the propeller.

After some discussions with the Clements Marine design team, a five blade Hyperform propeller was developed. The team took it to Norway, where it was successfully trialled.

The Clements Marine designed propeller provided a smooth ride and the decibel count was reduced significantly. The super smooth propellers have enhanced performance to such a degree that much that Clements Marine has now supplied more than 50 of the propellers.
