See the ultimate UltraJet alongside at Seawork
The new UltraJet UJ 525 provides a high performance solution where size and cost constraints have previously made it difficult to provide an optimised waterjet package.
Visitors to Seawork 2010 will find propulsion specialists Ultra Dynamics Ltd on Stand 1 inside the exhibition hall and an 18m South Boats wind farm support vessel equipped the new UltraJet UJ525 drives units outside on the Seawork pontoon.
With a maximum input power of 1,100 kW (1,475 bhp) the new UltraJet UJ525 is the first UltraJet model to be fully designed using Solidworks 3D capability, enabling a higher degree of accuracy, lower tooling costs and the ability to optimise the flow characteristics of the jet.
The first UltraJet UJ525 installations were ordered for the new 18m catamaran project even before the jet design had been finalised, but were delivered on time to meet the customer’s requirements.
This waterjet is designed for single, twin, triple or quad installations in boats up to 200 tons. It provides a high performance solution where size and cost constraints have previously made it difficult to provide an optimised waterjet package.
The UltraJet UJ525 incorporates several improvements which include a redesigned reverse deflector with improved flow characteristics to increase the reverse and manoeuvring thrust. There are also a number of improvements on the UltraJet UJ525 to improve durability, service life and maintainability.
When requested, interceptors can also be fitted to the UltraJets to provide fuel efficient steering and to optimise the trim of the boat with varying loads. Various interceptor control systems are available.
In common with other Ultra Dynamics waterjets, the new UJ525 is constructed in marine grade aluminium alloy, with the impeller, its housing, shafts and operating cylinders for steering and reverse being made of stainless steel. The UJ525 may be configured for the complete range of UltraJet Control systems, including JetMaster joystick control with a multiple range of options. This system offers features previously only available on more expensive systems, including integration of diesel engine, throttles and waterjet management functions into a single intuitive control system. It incorporates safety features and can also interface with autopilots.
Last year was a positive and busy year for Ultra Dynamics, working closely with customers to provide prompt application assistance, on time delivery and ongoing support once the boat is in service while at the same time managing to introduce the NEW UltraJet UJ525 and UJ452 to the range. See them for yourself on Stand 1 at Seawork 2010.
