At the start of the final day of Seawork 2010, Maritime Journal takes a look at the latest news to come from the exhibition over the last two days...

Highlights during the last day of Seawork today will include Renewable Energy workshops by Marine South East and Envirobusiness and a session on the implementation to date of the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009, and of course the usual hustle and bustle of exhibitor activity.

Seawork has once again been full of action. The first day, Tuesday 15 June, saw Solent Towage demonstrating one of their purpose designed Voith propelled water tractors on the water.

News from the exhibitors came from Cathelco, who acquired Seafresh Desalinators in April this year, reporting encouraging interest in their combined technologies on the first day of the show.

Premier Shipping & Packing Ltd announced a new worldwide commercial alliance at Seawork, in the presence of the press and a VIP guest from Panama. Also, Rolls-Royce announced another important order for the Wind Farm Support Vessel market from fellow Seawork exhibitor, Alicat Workboats.

At the Seawork 2010 Gala Dinner that evening, Echopilot Marine Electronics Ltd, won the overall 2010 Spirit of Innovation award for its 3D Forward Looking Sonar. Another winner was KPM-Marine, last year’s Spirit of Innovation award, who won the Vessel Design & Construction category for the KPM-Marine Scotseat suspension system. Julian Morgan of KPM-Marine said, ‘We love Seawork. It’s our Christmas!’.

Yesterday, the second day of the exhibition, saw Seawork welcoming 32 high ranking naval attachés from across the world and also saw Seawork playing host to the 2010 Wave and Tidal Technology Symposium (WATTS).

Hot news on the second day at Seawork from the exhibitors was that Meercat Workboats Ltd signed a contract at Seawork yesterday to supply a specialised service vessel to operate on the UK’s East Coast. Damen’s STAN Tug 1205 on the pontoons was purchased at the exhibition by fellow exhibitor Red7Marine.

Also, South Boats confirmed that orders for two vessels had been placed, an additional 16m Turbine Transfer vessel and a 15m WFSV for Iceni Marine Services. The combined values exceed £2million with deliveries in early 2011.

‘Better than the boat shows’ judged some of the visitors by the end of the second day , ‘There’s more to see, and people have the willingness to talk to you, not just sell,’ said veteran engineering consultant Jeffrey Casciani-Wood. ‘Seawork is a very interesting event’, added marine surveyor Alan Broomfield.
