A contract signed at Seawork 2007 is coming to fruition as Perlis Marine of Kampung Tenga in Malaysia is underway with the build of the first hulls in a five boat order for the Royal Malaysian Police (RMP).

The new 25m boats are designed by UK based Camarc Design. Their double chine hull form contributes to a capable and cost effective craft which meets the operational requirements of the Police.Tank testing of the hull was carried out by the Wolfson Unit from Southampton University and confirmed the hull design's ability to meet the RMP's range and speed requirements.

The new craft feature a twin installation of Caterpillar C32 engines rated at 1,800hp and driving fixed pitch Stone Marine propellers for a top speed of 35 knots. With a fuel capacity of 11,000 litres, the design has a range of over 500 nautical miles at 28 knots.

There is comfortable accommodation for a crew of 10 in a craft aluminium alloy structure is to Lloyds Register approvals for SSC Class G3.

Alastair Cameron of Camarc Design said, 'We are very pleased to design these new craft. It confirms again the success of our hull designs following on from the 180 boat order for the 13.6m RB-M class boats for the United States Coastguard and five 15m Holyhead Marine Patrol boats for the UK Ministry of Defence Police.'

Perlis Marine has a dedicated newbuild facility for production of specialist high performance craft and the yard is cooperating with Camarc Design in developing other fast craft solutions for the professional sector of the marine market.
