Waveblade’s return visit nets Seawork award
Operator training for Waveblade is unnecessary as the soft blade oscillates rather than chisels.
A reconnaissance mission to Seawork 2010 by Wave Craft UK resulted in the company carrying off a Spirit of Innovation category award only one year later.
“Seawork? It’s the perfect showcase for us”, was the immediate reaction of the company on its visit a year ago.
Waveblade, the world’s first hand held power barnacle remover made its world debut just a few months later at the Southampton Boat Show. Despite it being a leisure orientated show, Waveblade attracted significant commercial attention which, coupled to the Seawork 2010 experience, led Wave Craft UK MD Katie Clark to book a stand for Seawork 2011.
‘We are very excited by the reception Waveblade has received both in the commercial and leisure marine markets, she said before this year’s exhibition. “The visit to Seawork 2010 was the equivalent of finding a needle in a haystack for us. A walk around the halls quickly showed that not only was the majority of our target market gathered in one place, they also had no shortage of great ideas for product development. Booking a stand for 2011 was a no-brainer and we’ll be entering the Waveblade in the Innovations Showcase.”
And so it came to pass. The judges were more than impressed with Waveblade, which won the Marine Civil Enginnering and Construction category award. It is a device for removing barnacles and other biofouling from vessels and submerged structures rapidly, effectively and safely without damaging paintwork when used in accordance with manual guidelines. Waveblade requires a 12V power supply and is completely waterproof to a depth of 4.5m. Supplied with a 13.7m cable, it can be used safely above or below the waterline. Operator training is unnecessary as the soft blade oscillates rather than chisels. The stylish design belies its rugged construction, which has been proven in harsh environments, including prolonged trials by a group of professional divers.
Waveblade is sold as a complete kit, including safety gloves and glasses, power cable, interchangeable blades for flat and curved surfaces such as shafts, outdrives and propellers as well as a rugged canvas bag to keep it all in.
