Defying the downturn, Sedna Towage & Offshore has just purchased a new anchor handling tug. The 'Victory’ is the third tug to be managed by subsidiary, AnDoFe, joining ‘Independence’ and ‘Scapino’.

The Greenbay Marine designed Victory has an overall length of 38m, a moulded beam of 10.80m and a maximum draft of 4m. The deck will have a capacity of 70 tons in all, with free deck space coming to around 130 sq/m.

The vessel’s 65 ton bollard pull comes from two Caterpillar 3516B main engines (rated at 1,920kW at 1,600 rpm) giving a total output of 5,150 hp. There are two 4-blade fixed pitch main thrusters and a Suzhou Marine 250kW TT1100–FP bow thruster which has a 4.3 ton capability.

The marine generator sets are designed to have backup capability, as two of the three 245kW 415V Cummins sets combine to work together with the third being kept on standby.

Nico Marine Transmission supplied the 1,727V reverse reduction gearboxes. The comprehensive set of deck machinery comprises of a towing/anchor handling double drum waterfall winch, which takes 850m of 52mm steel wire on each drum has a line pulling capability of 75 tons at 0-5mtrs/min, and a brake holding of 150 tons. Local and remote control are from the wheelhouse and aft console. The electric anchor windlass controls two anchors, with a 675kg weight each, (there is a third kept for spare).

The tugger winch operates at 10 tons at 15m per min and the deck crane has a capability of 5 tons at 11.5 m extension. Further, there are towing pins, capstan and 150 ton capacity shark jaw.

The tug's firefighting capability is supported by a main engine driven fire fighting pump which has a 1,400 m3/hr capacity, and two remote controlled foam or water units with 600 m³/hr at 130mtrs head capacity each. The antipollution capability has two 6m stainless steel spray booms and a 3m3 dispersant tank.

Presently being built at the YCK shipbuilding yard in Malaysia, it will be operated by Sedna’s management subsidiary AnDoFe, from its Italian quarters. This will place the Victory, says AnDoFe, ‘as a good all-rounder, looking at deployment in a number of sectors as far apart as West Africa and the Mediterranean.’
