Fairmount Marine’s tug Fairmount Alpine has successfully assisted in the refloating of the grounded MV Ikan Sepat just offshore Puerto Cortés, Honduras. The salvage operation was directed by T&T Bisso Salvage.

The MV Ikan Sepat is a 180m long, 28,503 DWT bulk carrier flying the Singapore flag. The vessel was grounded in the approach of the port of Puerto Cortés, located at the Gulf of Honduras in the northwest of the country.

During mobilization of the Fairmount Alpine from Jamaica, specialists from Fairmount Marine discussed the salvage operation with T&T Bisso’s salvage master. Fairmount Alpine arrived on site, where officers of the tug met with the salvage team, the officers of MV Ikan Sepat and other parties involved onboard the grounded vessel.

During the following day preparations were made for the refloat attempts. Fairmount Alpine assisted with ‘prop washing’ and soundings at the stern of the grounded vessel and the towing equipment for the refloat attempt was prepared by Fairmount Alpine’s deck crew. Fairmount Alpine then successfully refloated MV Ikan Sepat due to combined efforts of the tug’s crew, the salvage team and the crew of the vessel.

In other recent activity, Fairmount Marine’s tug Fairmount Sherpa has safely towed the semi-submersible drilling rig Noble Paul Romano from the Gulf of Mexico to Egypt. The tow was over a distance of close to 8,000 miles.

When contracted by Noble Drilling, the Fairmount Sherpa had just completed the installation of FPSO Skarv off of Norway. Fairmount Sherpa was mobilized first to Rotterdam for supplies and bunkers before it sailed to Jamaica for a rendez-vous with Noble Paul Romano, which was already under tow by the tug Svitzer Rotterdam.

Off Jamaica Fairmount Sherpa hooked up the tow and the convoy set sail for San Juan, Puerto Rico, for bunkers. After the successful crossing of the North Atlantic the convoy safely arrived at Las Palmas, Canary Islands, for another bunker stop. Here Fairmount Sherpa assisted in cargo and personnel transfer for the Noble Paul Romano as well.

Enroute to Egypt the convoy made a stop in Malta for cargo and personnel for the Noble Paul Ramona before it sailed towards the mooring position in the North Hap’y oilfield in the Greater Nile basin off Egypt, in the eastern Mediterranean. The client, Noble Drilling, thenhired Fairmount Sherpa for additional cargo runs in the North Hap’y field.
