Alnmaritec, the specialist aluminium boat builder based in Northumberland, UK, recently announced the successful delivery of a new general purpose line handling and harbour support work boat to Western Australia.

The Wave Train has been built for South Sea Logistics Ltd. (SSL) based in Geraldton Western Australia. The vessel is a customised version of the popular Wave Angler class of vessels from Alnmaritec and is the first boat that the company has ever sold to Australia.

Wave Train is an aluminium asymmetric catamaran 10.15 long and 4.8m wide with a displacement of around 11 tonnes. The vessel is fitted with twin 355bhp Cummins QSB diesel engines driving through conventional ZF gearboxes to a pair of Hamilton 292 waterjets. These give a top speed of 22 knots, a bollard pull of 2 tonnes and truly exceptional manoeuvrability ideally suited for close quarters work around the harbour.

Wave Train carries a complement of 3 crew and 6 passengers in comfort within the air conditioned wheelhouse and has a large working deck aft which is serviced by a Palfinger PK 2500 hydraulic knuckle boom crane and a 2 tonne hydraulic capstan.

South Sea Logistics was established in its home port of Geraldton in WA by Don & Maitland Woodcock to provide a range of maritime logistical services in the region. Upon arrival the Wave Train has immediately been leased from them by a major corporation in the iron ore sector based in Cape Lambert and is currently being used for duties such as crew transfer, pilotage and line handling.

Alnmaritec managing director Chris Millman said, ‘I am really very pleased to have sold a boat to Australia and to hear that she has been performing so well. I am also delighted that the owners think so much of the new boat that they have decided to become our agents in the country, we are very hopeful that this will lead to future orders’.
