Take a PLA 'Lambeth' walk on the Seawork pontoon
'Lambeth' requires only 40% of the power required to achieve the same speed as a more conventional design of the same size.
The Port of London Authority (PLA) has brought its newest patrol launch/pilot boat Lambeth to Seawork and entered the vessel design and build into the Innovations Showcase.
Lambeth, measuring 13.5m LOA with a 4.8m beam and displacing 11 tons, was designed and built by Alnmaritec Limited, of Northumberland UK, to the PLA's concept drawing, with hydrodynamics optimised by the University of Newcastle and hull strength optimisation carried out by Amgram Limited.
The propulsion machinery and auxiliary systems have been designed for optimum performance and reliability and provide for all known primary sources of defects to be designed out.
The John Deere 6068TFM keel cooled engines, engineered and supplied by E P Barrus Limited, provide 200hp and drive via TwinDisc gearboxes with electronic controls sourced through MIT Limited.
Novel oil lubricated stern shafts, identified at last year's Seawork exhibition, have been provided by H4 Marine Limited and propellers and keel coolers have been supplied, to the PLA's requirements and Newcastle University's design, by Kort Propulsion Limited.
Busy Alnmaritec has also recently launched a new offshore ‘Marine Service Vessel’ for operation in and around the busy port of Gibraltar.
The MHB Swordfish has been built for the Gibraltar based company MH Bland and is a customised version of the popular ‘Wave Provider’ class of vessels from Alnmaritec. It is the fourth vessel Alnmaritec has built over recent years for marine servicing work in Gibraltar.
MHB Swordfish is an aluminium asymmetric catamaran 15m long and 5m wide, with a displacement of some 17 tons. It is fitted with twin 425bhp Volvo Penta D9 MH diesel engines driving through conventional ZF gearboxes to a pair of Hamilton 322 waterjets. These give the boat a top speed of over 20 knots and excellent manoeuvrability which is ideal for close quarters work around the harbour and anchorage.
Swordfish carries a complement of three crew and 12 passengers in comfort within the accommodation and has a large working deck aft which is serviced by a Palfinger PK 6500 hydraulic knuckle boom crane.
