Lightweight underlay keeps RFA ship trim
SynDeck can be overlaid with most coverings, including resins, carpet, tiles, vinyl, timber and others.
Southampton based marine outfitters Trimline was contracted recently to carry out some refurbishment on RFA Black Rover, a fleet tanker of the British Royal Fleet Auxiliary.
It then contacted Euro Resin Solutions (ERS) for a recommendation for an alternative underlayment for interior deck spaces where water ingress had caused previous materials to separate from the steelwork.
“I had no hesitation in recommending the SynDeck system for this project, said Wayne Rocket of ERS. “We knew that it is one of the best in its field thanks to its light weight and performance. We were also able to give a guarantee that it would not lift from the steel decking, even in the wettest areas.”
The result of 20 years of experience providing the marine industry with coatings and underlayments, The Epmar Corporation’s SynDeck underlayment system can be trowelled at any thicknesses between 6mm to 100mm, creating slopes and coving.
It is one-third of the weight of latex and cement leveling systems and, as no water or water soluble latex is used, bonding in potentially wet areas is much better than with conventional cement leveling systems. SynDeck can be overlaid with most coverings, including resins, carpet, tiles, vinyl, timber and others.
Trimline was happy to approve the use of SynDeck underlayment on this project. Wayne Rocket and his team were able to trowel the SynDeck to a uniform finish even though the steel decking was not flat.
SynDeck ultra lightweight underlayment is one of a complete line of Epmar products used in the construction, overhaul and repair of decking and other surfaces in marine environments. SynDeck products have full IMO approvals and meet US Navy military specifications for weight and performance. SynDeck is also available in a Terrazzo effect finish with clear sealers and enhanced anti-slip additives used to create a simple decorative appearance.
