Planned maintenance system for Baltic cargo fleet
The 4,100 dwt self-discharging cargo ship Listervik now benefits from a planned maintenance system.
UK based Marine Software Ltd has recently supplied its Marine Planned Maintenance (MPM) solution to Sweden’s Rederi AB Uman, which will be installed on three Gibraltar flagged general cargo vessels.
Rederi AB Uman operates a fleet of six vessels, of which five are 100% owned and one is part owned. The 4,100 dwt vessels Lister and Listervik are sister ships which have been converted to self-discharging, primary for grain and wood pellets cargoes.
The recently bought 4,200 dwt Listerhav is of a similar size but with greater capacity in the hold. It is to be used primarily for woodchips and wood pellets. These vessels operate mainly in the Baltic and North Sea regions.
Rederi AB Uman fleet manager Björn Holm said, ‘For us the choice of planned maintenance system was simple. A user friendly programme with a lot of module functions that can be built on to fit just our organisation, and a great support function as well. The main reason for us to go from a file based maintenance system to computer based was the flag requirements, but that is a step that we don’t regret. Next step for us is to implement this system in our Swedish flagged vessels as well.’
The new self discharging system has many features specifically for the grain trade. With fixed grain bulkheads and conveyors in the cargo hold, the vessels can be discharged and ready for next loading without any cleaning at all. Also, the weather does not impact on the discharging, since that is done completely ‘closed’.
Marine Software also delivered a central Office Planned Maintenance (OPM) system for the company’s Swedish office in Karlshamn. This provides for all shoreside technical staff to monitor onboard fleet planned maintenance status as well as any defects. Central office OPM users can now control changes ashore and submit simple job card update files to the vessels for the changes to be made.
