We are the RNLI: the charity that saves lives at sea.

Every day of every year, people of all backgrounds get into difficulty on and around the water. It’s a problem that we’re here to tackle and we are determined to reduce drowning.

Our 24-hour search and rescue service operates from 238 lifeboat stations around the UK and Ireland. Our lifeguards patrol over 240 beaches across the UK and Channel Islands, and our flood rescue teams can reach anywhere in the UK and Ireland within six hours.

This is an exciting time for Engineering and Asset Management as we shape the department to take on the challenges of the future. We are looking for an inspirational and collaborative leader who has a proven track record in leadership, change management and partnership working.

As Principal Engineer, your leadership will support and guide an engineering team, whilst still delivering the highest levels of equipment and technical capability to the coast.

To deliver the role you will need to demonstrate you have experience working in an engineering environment, marine design, and demonstrate leadership skills and management of a team.

For this role it is key you have high level of knowledge in engineering and project management skills to solve practical engineering problems whilst handling a demanding workload with changing priorities. You will be operating across the organisation, including lifeboat stations, as well as with external contractors and suppliers.

You will also have an appropriate engineering qualification and experience relevant to the marine/automotive or related industry.

This position will give you the opportunity to be part of world leading engineering design and support, providing safe and effective boats and equipment for the RNLI. As this is a sea-going appointment, you will need to satisfy the institution's medical and eyesight standards.

This is your chance to be part of something important, something that changes and saves lives every day.
