Royal IHC has launched the 6,000m3 capacity trailing suction hopper dredger Arzana from its Kinderdijk yard in the Netherlands for the Abu Dhabi based National Marine Dredging Company (NMDC).

The first custom built TSHD in the Middle East, Arzana forms a key role in NMDC’s international growth and fleet investment strategy aimed at positioning the company as an industry leader.

The design is the result of close cooperation between IHC and NMDC, delivering a tailor made solution which combines shallow draft with high manoeuvrability in a vessel capable of dredging to significant depths. Specifically designed for operation in high temperature environments, the vessel also features a one man bridge and a forward looking multibeam survey system.

As part of IHC’s aspiration to form long term business partnerships with its customers, the order also includes a full life cycle support programme in combination with condition based monitoring to ensure the long and sustainable operation of the vessel. IHC will also provide training for NMDC’s crew.

IHC CEO Dave Vander Heyde said: “IHC is proud to contribute to NMDC’s international growth and fleet investment strategy. We value our enduring relationship, which has led to the delivery of many cutting edge vesssels.”
