Seattle USA based Kvichak Marine Industries and Camarc Design in the UK have teamed up once again this year in close cooperation with the owner to design and build three 72’ (22m) all weather fast pilot boats, for pilot operation in the ports along the Dutch coast and operated by the Dutch Pilotage Organization ( DPO).

With a 75.1’ overall length and an beam of 22.3’, the all aluminum vessels are powered by twin Caterpillar C-32 ACERT engines, coupled to ZF 3050 marine gearboxes driving Hamilton 651 water jets. This combination allows for excellent maneuverability and a top speed of 28.5 knots fully loaded. To meet the stringent emission regulations set by the authorities of the Port of Rotterdam, each DPO boat will be equipped with a Selective Catalytic Reduction system and a diesel particulate filter. The emission performance will have a reduction of 98% of particulate matter and a 60% reduction of NOx and SOx, fulfilling all new requirements by IMO and EU guidelines.

The vessel features a floating and removable wheelhouse with ten resilient mounts to keep vibration down and deaden sound, maintaining the decibel level at or below 65db.

The vessels are being built in Seattle, where the Dutch Pilots have a representative on site throughout the process. Completion dates are scheduled for January 2010, February 2010 and April 2010.
