IADC Dredging and Reclamation Seminar
Singapore has been the scene of major land reclamation works over the last 20 years.
The International Association of Dredging Companies (IADC) has announced the 37th International Seminar on Dredging and Reclamation will take place on 24 - 28 October 2011 in Singapore.
For 18 years the IADC has been organising international seminars on dredging and reclamation for (future) decision makers and their advisors in governments, port and harbour authorities, offshore companies and other organisations. Almost 1,000 young professionals have benefitted from these seminars, improving their ability to understand the intricacies of dredging projects.
Most often these seminars are conducted in cooperation with local technical universities, providing week long intensive instruction. These especially developed courses have been successfully presented all over the world, including Delft, Singapore, Dubai, Buenos Aires, Bahrain, Mexico and Abu Dhabi.
The 37th edition of this seminar will be held in cooperation with the National University of Singapore at the Grand Park City Hall hotel. The seminars reflect IADC’s commitment to education, to encouraging young people to enter the field of dredging, and to improving knowledge about dredging throughout the world.
Utilising a combination of lectures and workshops conducted by experts, the five day course strives to explain the complexities of dredging, with subjects covered including:
- the development of new ports and maintenance of existing ports;
- project phasing (identification, investigation, feasibility studies, design, construction);
- descriptions of types of dredging equipment and boundary conditions for their use;
- state of the art dredging techniques as well as environmentally sound techniques;
- pre-dredging and soil investigations, designing and estimating from the contractor’s view;
- costing of projects and types of contracts such as charter, unit rates, lump sum and risk-sharing agreements.
Getting out of the classroom and into the field is an important feature of the seminar and so in each country a visit to a dredging project is planned. Singapore has been a dredging epicentre over recent years with regard to both land reclamation and port expansion works, so the site visit is certain to prove instructive.
The cost of the seminar will be €3,100. The fee includes all tuition, seminar proceedings and workshops, and a special participants dinner during the week but is exclusive of travel costs and accommodation. If needed, IADC assists with finding accommodation. Delegates registering before 1 September 2011 will receive a €250 discount.
