St Katharine Docks radio upgrade improves safety
St Katharine Docks has improved its safeguarding ability with the introduction of digital two-way radio handsets.
The site upgraded its communications system to improve health and safety for residents and visitors and has reported improved coverage, particularly in the sub-ground levels of the site.
The Hytera digital radios replace analogue two-way radios, which, according to St Katharine Docks, struggled to fulfil communication demands across the complex, with the 30+ staff commonly reporting coverage issues.
Durable lithium ion batteries
Hytera partner Chatterbox supplied the team with Hytera PD785 and X1p radios. The DMR devices are designed to be compact and lightweight, meaning they are easily portable.
Featuring lithium ion batteries, the handsets have a lengthy talk time per charge, which met the team’s high usage requirements and need to relay time-sensitive information quickly and efficiently.
The Hytera system also offers a ‘Priority Interrupt’ feature, which enables management users to interrupt all voice communications on a channel to relay crucial information to all radio users simultaneously if required.
Chatterbox leased the technology to St Katharine Docks and will provide support, training and future upgrades and scaling where necessary.
Extra functionality can be added to the radios in line with emerging technologies.
St Katharine Docks is central London’s only marina and home to a variety of high-end restaurants, bars and offices. The Tower of London, adjacent to the site, has the highest level of footfall for any attraction in the UK.
