Damen Services Brisbane goes on the road

Damen Services Brisbane, the Queensland service hub for the international Damen Shipyards Group, has taken its Seminar on the road. Sydney City Marine has hosted a 1 day technical seminar on vessel automation systems.

Damen Services Brisbane has mobilised the complete automation simulator which was set up to compliment the training presentation. An Expert trainer was able to deliver a theoretical and practical insight into the automation system installed on Damen vessels.

This 1-day version of the training package was delivered to Sydney based Damen vessel operators. Attending participants included representatives from Svitzer, Teekay Shipping and Serco. The seminar benefits from having a good mixture of user knowledge and experience with the various system installed on Damen vessels. Topics covered included, the integration of systems, design aspects of the system and redundant networking. Feedback from the attendants was very positive, with many saying that the learnings will be beneficial in future operations.

Previously the technical seminars have been held by Damen Services Brisbane in the HUB. Earlier this year Damen provided New Zealand customers with site based training onboard their own vessels. In discussion with Australian customers, it was recognised that a Sydney local seminar would be appealing to many operators who in the past have had difficulties traveling due to operational commitments. The success of this seminar has led to another event to be planned in early 2018 in Sydney and other locations to follow.

The event was positively received by the participants and it also gave Sydney City Marine (SCM) the opportunity to showcase their facility including their ship-lift operation. Brenton Fischer, SCM managing director, comments that this event provides a mutually beneficial platform for Damen customer in Sydney to come together and it also shows cooperative of the MOU signed with Damen in 2015.

Damen Service Brisbane is committed to providing operators with more Seminars in the future and is excited to be able to share these events in early 2018.
