Schat-Harding service teams were able to check the structure and davits on the Swedish flag vessel then supply and fit three MPC36 semi-enclosed 150 person lifeboats to replace the damaged Waterman craft.
Schat-Harding adapted the davits and hanging arrangements while the ship continued in full operation.
“We were able to adapt the boats to the davits before they left the factory, then modify the davits on passage between Helsinki and Tallin, then fit the boats while the vessel was in normal operation in Helsinki”, said Schat-Harding’s sales manager Per Einar Gjerding.
The Waterman boats and the davit type fitted are no longer manufactured but Schat-Harding is able to work across brands to suit customer need.
Ironically, twelve days after the new boats were fitted Silja Opera was involved in another collision, requiring Schat-Harding to supply two more replacement boats.
