When it came to specifying the pontoon system covering, the RNLI recommended that main contractor Dean & Dyball optfor Marina Deck by Fibreglass Grating Ltd , which was duly installed by designers Intermarine Ltd .
As well as fulfilling the design aesthetic, it was crucial that the surface for the pontoon system was completely non-slip.
Marina Deck had already proven itself at other RNLI installations by offering optimum safety even in freezing conditions and other extreme weather as well as when subjected to oil and detergent. It is also algae resistant and maintenance free.
Her Majesty the Queen was one of the centre’s first patrons to walk along the new pontoon decking when she presided at the opening ceremonies.
The RNLI’s Chris Refoy commented, ‘Marina Deck provides one of the very best slip resistant surfaces we have ever encountered, which as the health and safety of our trainees is of prime importance during their training programme, naturally makes this material highly desirable.’
