The latest Twin City Liner, which is powered by four Scania D116 076M engines and four Rolls-Royce S40-3 water jets, will operate on the River Danube on a daily route between Vienna and Bratislava, Slovakia.
Hosted by Peter Morton, chief executive of Wight Shipyard, guests at the handover event were took an inaugural trip on the ferry, which has a service speed of 34 knots and a maximum speed of 40 knots.
The vessel is the sixth ferry launched from Wight Shipyard in the last two years.
Strong delivery history
In 2016, the shipyard delivered Red Funnel’s 41m aluminium passenger, Isle of Wight /Southampton fast ferry named Red Jet 6. Two new MBNA 32 m Thames Clippers, followed, representing the largest fast ferry order for a UK yard for over 20 years. Clipper and Jupiter Clipper entered service in 2017. The delivery was followed by an International order for a 39m vessel, the third for the shipyard in as many weeks.
At the end of August 2017 Red Funnel placed an order for its second 41m High Speed Ferry., This was followed by the order from Jacobite Cruises for a 21m day ferry which was delivered earlier this year to Loch Ness.
