During the drydocking, the measured clearance between bearings and shaft liners after 28 years of continuous operation was recorded at a maximum of 2.8mm.<\/p>\n<p>The Maprom recommended change out clearance for this application with shaft liner dimensions of 240 mm is maximised at 4.9mm. Based on this, the Technical Department of ThyssenKrupp Veerhaven decided not to renovate the propeller shaft installation and thus stretch the 204.000 running hours to even higher record levels.<\/p>\n<p>All river pushboats of Veerhaven comply to classification rules of Dutch Scheepvaart inspectie, according to which no shafts have to be withdrawn for class inspection every five years. As the over shaft clearance is still within acceptable limits it was decided not to pull the shaft or to replace the perfect operating bearings and shaft liners. The shafts have only been pulled once in 28 years of in order to change from conventional installed stuffing boxes to Maprom GS shaft seal.<\/p>\n<p>During the February drydocking the engines were overhauled, propellers balanced and all three nozzles replaced by new ones without removing the propeller shafts.<\/p>\n<p>ThyssenKrupp Veerhaven B.V. is a long term customer of Maprom Engineering\u2019s water lubricated sterntube systems.
