Oliver Rivera from Fluidmecanica told MJ, ‘The contract for the first winch was signed at the NEVA 2009 exhibition in St Petersburg. It was a great success for us, because it was the first time that we have worked with this shipyard. We have worked in Russia from 2003 and work with a lot of shipyards, but this one was seven years in the making.

‘This project is really important for us, because it is our first escort winch installed in Russia. It is our chance to show this product in the Russian market. We have built escort tugs for years, but never had the opportunity to present them in Russia.’

All of the vessel winches are for the same project , model MPSV07 and will be installed on hulls 701, 702 and 703 at the same shipyard. The second and third vessel winches will be delivered in October 2010 and February 2011.

The Fluidmecanica winch is an escort and anchor handling, waterfall configuration towing winch. It includes the extra feature of explosion proof safety, up to ATEX Zone II.

The winch has two control posts on the vessel, with the local control is rated explosion proof. The remote control is intended for installation on the wheelhouse and includes two touch screens for control and readout of parameters such as pull, pressure, and escort operation mode.

The Russian mult-purpose salvage vessels will be in the main performing standby for rescue operations, providing technical support and assistance and servicing of transport operations in ports.
