Kotug Smit Towage tackles fire at Ghent Port
Kotug Smit Towage has successfully tackled a fire and provided emergency assistance to an iron and steel recycling site at the Belgian Port of Ghent.
Upon receipt of a distress call from the port, the tugs Brugge and Braakman first shifted a bulk carrier moored at the facility to a safe berthing place away from the blaze.
Brugge then provided firefighting response activities at the fire, battling the flames and creating a water curtain to protect the surrounding areas against further spread of fire and smoke.
The firm said that thanks to excellent cooperation between the local authorities and the fire brigade and the immediate availability of the well-equipped tugs, both casualties and extensive damage from the fire were prevented.
